“Beside the Still Waters” shows Jesus as the Good Shepherd walking with His flock beside quiet water, inspired by Psalm 23:2–3. Soft ivory light, muted green pasture, and sheltering trees create a place of rest, while Christ’s steady presence gives the scene its center. This premium canvas print is available in horizontal or vertical layouts, with optional artist-applied embellishment and floating-frame choices.

“Beside the Still Waters” original artwork inspired by Psalm 23:2–3.

Story Behind the Art

“Beside the Still Waters” pictures the quiet promise of Psalm 23:2–3: the Lord leads His flock to green pasture, brings them beside restful waters, and restores what has grown weary. Jesus walks at the edge of the gathered sheep as they drink and rest, not distant from the flock but among them. The scene centers on the Good Shepherd’s attentive guidance. It's the kind of care that knows when to move, when to wait, and where true renewal is found.

I positioned Christ from behind so the viewer could enter the path with Him instead of meeting a formal portrait. His pale robe catches the light at the right of the painting, while the flock, reflective water, and sheltering trees draw the eye gently toward His presence. Soft edges and a quiet palette of ivory, sage, and warm earth tones hold the landscape in a peaceful hush. Nothing in the scene is hurried. The sheep are secure because they remain near the Shepherd who knows the way.

Many seasons of life teach us to keep moving even when the soul is tired. Psalm 23 offers a gentler truth: rest is not simply a reward we earn after every task is finished. It is part of the Shepherd’s care. Restoration does not mean every difficult road disappears or every burden is immediately removed. It means the Savior remains present, provides what we need, and guides us forward with grace. I painted this scene to hold that steady assurance: the Savior is close enough to lead us and patient enough to let us rest.

“Beside the Still Waters” is a great choice for someone walking through anxiety, grief, recovery, or a demanding season of change. Display it in a living room or prayer space, or give it as a baptism, housewarming, sympathy, or encouragement gift. I hope the quiet water and gathered flock call the heart back to the central promise of the psalm: the Good Shepherd is near, and His faithful care can restore us for the path ahead.

Product Details

Each canvas is made with premium canvas and long-lasting inks to preserve the original painting’s soft neutral color, layered light, and visible texture. The canvas is wrapped around sturdy 1.5-inch stretcher bars, and the image continues around the sides for a finished gallery-style appearance. It arrives ready to hang with secure hanging hardware and can be displayed with or without an optional floating frame.

Choose the horizontal or vertical layout that best fits your space. Expect a slight variation in color depending on your device’s display settings. Cropping will vary by layout and size, and I carefully prepare each crop to preserve the visual focus of Christ, the flock, and the still water.

Canvas Care

  • Display away from prolonged direct sunlight to protect the color and prevent fading.
  • Avoid bathrooms, damp spaces, fireplaces, radiators, and other areas with extreme heat or humidity.
  • Dust the surface gently with a soft, clean, dry microfiber cloth. Do not use water or cleaning products.
  • Lift and carry the canvas by the frame rather than pressing on the artwork surface.

Hand-Embellished Canvas Option

For a richer painterly surface, choose a Hand Embellished finish in your preferred layout. I personally apply professional acrylic paint and gel medium across the canvas, adding textured brushstrokes and highlights that follow the original artistic vision. The artist-applied finish brings additional depth to the luminous trees, reflective water, gathered flock, and movement of Christ’s robe.

No two hand-embellished canvases are exactly alike. Each one is individually finished with care, creating a one-of-a-kind fine art reproduction with a strong connection to the artist’s hand. This option requires additional creation time.

Floating Frame Option

An optional modern floating frame gives the canvas a clean, gallery-style presentation. A narrow space between the canvas and frame creates the appearance that the artwork is floating within it, adding definition without covering the image. Choose the frame color that best complements your room and décor.
