One thing I love most about this painting is the perspective. You see the Savior from behind, leading the way, with the sheep close at His side. His robe brushes the water as He walks, and their reflections ripple together in the still surface below. I wanted it to feel like you could step right into the scene and follow them, because that’s what the gospel invites us to do. In His love, there is no shame in being found, only joy in being brought home.
I’ve had moments in my life where I’ve felt like the “one” instead of the ninety-nine, and times when I wondered if I’d wandered too far. But every time, I’ve found that He knows the way to me. Sometimes it’s through a still small voice, sometimes through the kindness of others, but it’s always Him. This painting is my way of remembering that the Good Shepherd never loses track of His sheep.
