Story Behind the Art
Her small hand rests in His. Her other arm reaches toward the sea. In Held in His Love, a little girl stands beside Jesus with room to wonder and explore. Isaiah 41:13 gives words to the peace in this scene: “Fear not; I will help thee” (KJV).
The curve of the surf forms a heart around them. Blue water and white foam meet warm sand beneath their feet. Jesus looks toward the child, keeping her close as she looks ahead. His care gives the scene its peace. The sea fills much of the painting, but our eyes return to their joined hands.
Small footprints lead up the beach beside larger ones. She has not walked here alone. The girl is curious about what lies before her, and she has someone beside her she can trust. That simple bond is the heart of the work: she can reach outward while her hand is held.
