“Look Up Child” shows a young shepherd pausing among his sheep as the face of Jesus emerges in luminous clouds, inspired by Psalm 121:1–2. The boy’s upward look turns an ordinary day toward the promise that our help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. Each fine art print is personally prepared and signed by the original artist, with framing and hand-embellished options available.

“Look Up Child” original artwork inspired by Psalm 121:1–2.

Story Behind the Art

“Look Up Child” pictures an ordinary shepherd’s day opening into the promise of Psalm 121:1–2: “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” A young boy pauses among his sheep and looks upward as the face of Jesus appears in the luminous clouds above him. The scene is not a literal biblical event, but a visual meditation on the psalm’s assurance that the Creator is also our present and personal help.

I made the difference in scale central to the composition. The shepherd and his flock remain small within the golden field, while the Savior fills the sky. Christ’s bowed head, warm expression, and hands gathered in a heart-like gesture direct His attention toward one child below. Cloud forms rise like distant hills, and radiant light joins the boy’s everyday work to the vastness above. His staff and sheep say that his responsibilities have not disappeared; what changes is where he looks while carrying them.

Daily work, uncertainty, and the needs of those who depend on us can narrow our vision until all we see is the next burden at our feet. Psalm 121 recognizes those burdens and redirects our trust beyond our own strength to the Lord who made heaven and earth. I see the Savior as attentive rather than distant because that truth matters to me: the God whose power exceeds creation is not too great to notice one person in an ordinary field.

“Look Up Child” may speak especially to a young believer, a missionary, or anyone feeling overwhelmed by responsibility. Display it in a family prayer space, or give it for a baptism or confirmation, First Communion, graduation, missionary farewell, or season of encouragement. I hope the shepherd's view gently calls your heart upward, toward the Lord whose faithful help allows you to meet it with hope.

Additional Details

  • Art prints ship unframed unless a framing option is selected.
  • This artwork is offered in one portrait composition. Cropping varies slightly by size, and I carefully prepare each crop to preserve the relationship between the shepherd, his flock, and the Savior above.
  • Expect a slight variation in color depending on your device’s display settings.
  • Each art print is listed by sheet size with a half-inch warm-white margin around the artwork. For example, a 5x7 print contains artwork sized at approximately 4x6, surrounded by a half-inch margin so the image can be framed without losing important details.
  • No mat is included.

Printing Process: Each print is created with a high-quality giclée printing process that reproduces the luminous cream-and-gold palette, soft cloud forms, and painterly detail of the original artwork.

Ink and Paper Quality: I use acid-free archival inks and museum-grade fine art paper so each print remains vibrant and fade-resistant for generations when displayed and cared for properly.

Sizes Available: Prints are offered in multiple portrait sizes to fit a variety of rooms and framing needs. Each crop is prepared to preserve the upward visual movement from the shepherd and flock to Christ in the clouds.

Packaging and Shipping: Each print is packaged securely using protective materials appropriate to its size. Tracking information is provided so you can follow the artwork on its journey to your home.

Care Instructions

  • Display away from prolonged direct sunlight to protect the color and prevent fading.
  • Frame standard prints behind UV-protective glass or acrylic when possible.
  • Handle the paper with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves.
  • Avoid rooms with excessive moisture or rapidly changing humidity.
  • Dust the frame or protective glazing gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

With thoughtful display and care, your print can remain a meaningful and inspiring part of your home for years to come.

Hand-Embellished Print Option

For added painterly texture and a more personal connection to the artist’s hand, choose a Hand Embellished finish. I personally apply professional acrylic paint and gel medium to selected areas of each print, following the light, color, and movement of the original painting. Artist-applied brushstrokes add depth and subtle variation to the luminous clouds, the Savior’s face and hands, the golden field, and the sheep, making every embellished print one of a kind.

Because each piece is finished individually, the hand-embellished option requires additional creation time. The finished piece is a hand-finished fine art reproduction, not an original painting.

About the Artist

My hope is that each piece brings the light of Jesus Christ into homes, strengthens faith, and helps families, friends, visitors, small groups, and congregations remember the truths of the gospel.
