Story Behind the Art
“My Shepherd Rescued Me” shows the moment in Luke 15:4–6 when the shepherd finds the one sheep he has been seeking. The Savior does not call from a distant hill or wait for the lamb to make its way back alone. He steps into the same rough ground, lowers Himself near the sheep, and extends an open hand with welcome. At the heart of the parable is the Shepherd’s determined love: the one who wandered is not forgotten, but sought, found, and brought home with joy.
I placed the lamb below Christ so the open space between them could hold the turning point of the story. Jesus’ outstretched hand creates a gentle path across that distance. Warm light gathers on His robe and the lamb’s wool, while the surrounding grasses remain textured with gold, umber, and shadow. The contrast makes the rescue feel both personal and immediate. Hope has entered the difficult place, and the Shepherd has come close enough to be trusted.
There are many ways to feel lost. Our own choices may lead us away, but grief, illness, exhaustion, uncertainty, or circumstances we never chose can also leave us feeling isolated and far from safety. But the Savior takes the initiative to seek and restore. His rescue offers a steady assurance: Jesus sees us, comes near, and remains faithful as He leads us toward belonging and home.
