One thing I love most about this painting is the expression on the Savior’s face. His smile is gentle and full of love, like the search is over and the lamb is finally safe. I also love the way He holds the lamb so securely. To me, that is the gospel in one image. Christ comes for the lost. He lifts them. And because of His Atonement and Resurrection, no one is beyond His reach. Easter means that the Shepherd still seeks, still saves, and still carries.
I think many of us know what it feels like to need that kind of love. Sometimes we feel tired, far away, or unsure if the Lord still sees us. This painting is meant to answer that fear with hope.
