Story Behind the Art

"And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me." – Luke 22:19

"In Remembrance #2" shows the sacred and solemn moment of the Last Supper, where Christ, bathed in heavenly light, invites His disciples to partake of the bread in remembrance of Him. The minimalism of this painting create a sense of reverence and timelessness, drawing the viewer into the moment as if standing at the table with Him.

One of my favorite things about this painting is the simplicity of its composition. The focus remains on Jesus, seated at the center, radiating quiet majesty. The disciples are engaged in hushed conversation, unaware of the full significance of this meal, while the Savior, knowing what is to come, offers His love freely. The light enveloping the scene tells us that even in moments of trial, the Savior brings peace.

With "In Remembrance #2," I thought about my own experiences with the sacrament—the sacred opportunity we have each week to remember Him. As followers of Christ, the sacrament is a renewal of our commitment to Him. "In Remembrance #2" is my personal testimony of that renewal, a reminder that no matter where we are on our spiritual walk, Christ calls us to partake, to remember, and to come unto Him.
