Story Behind the Art

“He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.” This verse from Psalm 18 forms the heart of "Protected by Him," the final piece in my Lost Lamb series. In this piece, Jesus cradles a rescued lamb close to His chest, standing protectively between it and the danger that still lingers in the shadows. Behind Him, a wolf watches, but it is too late. The Shepherd has already claimed His own.

One of my favorite things about this piece is the way Christ shields the lamb with His whole being. The storm is still brewing. The forest is still dark. But the lamb is safe, because the Shepherd did not hesitate. I wanted to show that moment when Jesus steps in not just as a guide, but as a Deliverer. His robes are soaked with rain, His hands still bear the wounds, but He never looks away from the one He came to save.

We all have seasons where we feel lost, broken, or hunted by unseen wolves. I know I have. But the beautiful promise of the gospel is that the Lord doesn’t just call from afar. He comes running. He rescues us in our lowest, muddiest, most desperate moments. And when He does, He holds us close and carries us to safety. That’s the kind of Savior He is.
