Story Behind the Art

“Run With Patience” translates the invitation of Hebrews 12:1–2 into a contemporary visual metaphor. A runner climbs a mountain trail with his eyes fixed on Jesus, who stands ahead at the crest. The passage calls disciples to “run with patience the race that is set before us” while “looking unto Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1–2, KJV). This passage teaches us what persevering faith can feel like when the road is steep and Christ remains the sure direction of our eyes.

I wanted the path to connect the two figures. It curves across rough ground, pulling the eye from the runner’s effort toward the calm figure of the Savior. The runner is close, caught mid-stride, while Jesus stands at a distance within the light. In the horizontal composition, the wide mountain range emphasizes the length of the journey. In the vertical composition, the rising trail and open sky emphasize the climb. Loose brushwork and a quiet, warm palette keep the image contemplative rather than triumphant.

Hebrews does not teach that endurance earns God’s love or that a faithful race becomes easy. It directs us away from self-reliance and toward Christ as the One who endured the cross and brings faith to completion. Some seasons feel like forward momentum. Others are a slow next step beneath burdens no one else sees. I painted this scene for that middle distance, when the finish feels far away and the truest act of courage is to keep looking to Jesus.

Because each piece is individually finished, this option requires additional creation time. The finished piece is a hand-finished fine art reproduction, not an original painting.
