Bring your favorite Painted Gospel piece closer to home with a custom figure edit by the original artist on canvas. For custom artwork on fine art paper, click here.

One of the most common questions I receive is, “Can you change the figure in this artwork to look more like me or someone I love?” I love that request because it means the message of the piece is personal to you. While I’m typically fully booked for 100% original commissions, I do have more availability to create customizations to my existing artwork. This option lets you keep the spirit and composition of the original piece while making the figure feel more like your story.

This listing is for customers who love one of my existing artworks and want to change a person in the scene. Think of things like adjusting hair color, skin tone, clothing details, or creating a more personal likeness. This is not a fully original custom painting from scratch. It is a thoughtful, guided customization of a figure within one of my current pieces.

Here is what is included:

  • Consultation via email so I can understand your request and what matters most to you.

  • Up to 5 rounds of edits to refine the figure until it feels right. I will send you previews along the way so we can make confident choices together.

  • A hand-embellished canvas print mailed to you when the artwork is complete.

If you want more than 5 rounds of edits, you can absolutely keep going. Additional edit rounds can be purchased for an added fee, and the cost depends on the artwork size and your framing choice. I do this to keep the process fair and clear for everyone, while still giving you room to be as detailed as you want.

If you have a specific request in mind, send it with any reference photos and a short note about what you are hoping to feel when you see the finished piece.

Tips to get the best results

  • Send clear reference photos. Bright lighting and sharp focus help the most. If it’s a likeness edit, a straight-on face photo and a 3/4 angle photo are ideal.

  • Share the “must-have” details. Tell me what matters most, like hairstyle, hairline, glasses, freckles, skin tone, or a specific smile. If something is important, list it.

  • Choose one main photo as the “primary.” Too many different looks can slow the process. A primary reference keeps the edits consistent.

  • Understand the style. My work is meant to feel warm, painterly, and reverent. It is not 100% photorealistic, so the goal is a faithful resemblance that fits the art style, not a perfect photo match.

  • Be clear about what you want changed. A simple checklist helps, like “hair darker,” “add beard,” “make the child look 8 years old,” or “adjust skin tone warmer.”

  • Communicate early if you’re unsure. If you’re deciding between two options, tell me. I can guide you toward what will look best in the final piece.

I love this kind of work because it lets the message of the Savior meet people in a personal way. If you have a request in mind, send your notes and reference photos after purchase, and we’ll start the consultation by email.

What “Hand Embellished” Means

After your custom edits are complete and the artwork is printed on canvas, I personally hand paint acrylics and apply texture across the entire surface of the canvas. This creates visible brushwork, raised detail, and a one-of-a-kind finish that catches the light in a way a standard print cannot. No two canvases are exactly the same, and each one becomes a unique piece.

Product Details

Your canvas print is a beautiful piece of art, made to help everyone who views it feel the Savior's love for years to come. By following these simple care tips, you can make sure it stays in excellent condition, preserving its beauty for generations.

Displaying Your Canvas

Keep it Away from Direct Sunlight: To prevent fading, display your canvas in a location where it is not exposed to prolonged direct sunlight.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures and Humidity: Protect your canvas by keeping it in a room with stable temperature and humidity levels. Avoid areas near heat sources, such as fireplaces or radiators, and do not hang it in bathrooms or other damp areas.

Cleaning Your Canvas

Dust Gently: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to gently dust the surface of your canvas. Avoid using water, cleaning sprays, or abrasive materials that could damage the surface.
Do Not Press or Rub: Handle your canvas with care. Pressing or rubbing too hard may damage the hand-applied embellishments or the canvas itself.

Handling and Moving

Use Clean Hands: When handling your canvas, make sure your hands are clean and dry to avoid transferring oils or dirt.

Support the Frame: Always support the canvas by holding the stretcher bars (the wooden frame) when moving it. Avoid putting pressure directly on the canvas surface.

Preserving Your Investment

Your canvas print is made with museum-quality materials and long-lasting inks. With proper care, it will maintain its stunning colors and textures for decades. If you ever need advice on maintaining your canvas, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

By treating your canvas with the same love and care that went into its creation, you can enjoy this piece of Christ-centered art as a lasting symbol of your faith and values.

About the Artist

My name is Chris Brazelton, and The Painted Gospel is a ministry to share my original Christ-centered art. Every painting begins in a place of prayer and study, where I seek guidance and draw inspiration from the scriptures. Each painting is rooted in a specific Biblical story or passage, and made to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. You'll find these stories detailed in the descriptions of each painting, inviting you to explore and connect with their deeper messages. I hope that each piece shines as a light in any space to strengthen the faith of your family, friends, visitors, small group, or congregation. These pieces also make perfect gifts for loved ones on any occasion.
