“While He Blessed Them” shows the risen Savior with hands raised over His disciples at the Ascension, inspired by Luke 24:50-51. The gathering, Christ’s blessing, and the luminous sky honor a departure filled with promise and hope. Each fine art print is personally prepared and signed by the original artist, with horizontal or vertical layouts, optional framing, and hand-embellished finishes.

“While He Blessed Them” original artwork inspired by Luke 24:50-51.

Story Behind the Art

“While He Blessed Them” is inspired by the final scene in Luke’s Gospel. Jesus leads His disciples out toward Bethany, lifts His hands, and blesses them. Luke 24:50-51 tells us that while He is blessing them, He is taken up into heaven. I was drawn to the tenderness of Luke’s wording: Jesus departs in the very act of blessing those He loves.

I placed the disciples close together near the earth, their varied postures carrying wonder, reverence, and the ache of farewell. Christ rises before them in white, His open arms forming the center of the composition. Light gathers around Him and reaches down over the waiting figures, visually extending His blessing across the distance. The horizontal layout emphasizes the gathered community and sweep of the hillside. The vertical layout lifts the eye through Christ’s raised hands into the clouds above.

Some goodbyes divide life into a before and an after. The Ascension contains that real separation, yet but does not end with abandoned disciples. They return to Jerusalem with great joy, worshiping and waiting for the promised power of the Holy Spirit. The Savior’s visible departure is only the beginning of His care, His reign, or His work in them. This scene helps me see that Christian hope can hold both longing and joy: we may not see every next step, but we remain beneath the Savior’s blessing and within the mission He has entrusted to His people.

“While He Blessed Them” may be especially edifying during Eastertide or the Feast of the Ascension, for a church or prayer room, or as a gift for a missionary, pastor, priest, minister, graduate, or family entering a new season. I Hope the gathered disciples and the light above them offer a quiet message: the risen Christ blesses His people and leaves them with a hope larger than the horizon.

Additional Details

  • Art prints ship unframed unless a framing option is selected.
  • Choose the horizontal or vertical layout that best fits your space. These are two individually composed layouts of the same artwork, not separate artistic versions. The amount of sky, hillside, and spacing around the disciples varies by layout and size.
  • Expect a slight variation in color depending on your device’s display settings.
  • Each art print is listed by sheet size with a half-inch warm-white margin around the artwork. For example, a 5x7 print contains artwork sized at approximately 4x6, surrounded by a half-inch margin so the image can be framed without losing important details.
  • No mat is included.

Printing Process: Each print is created with a high-quality giclée printing process that preserves the original artwork’s luminous clouds, soft olive hillside, warm ivory garments, and painterly detail.

Ink and Paper Quality: I use acid-free archival inks and museum-grade fine art paper so each print remains vibrant and fade-resistant for generations when displayed and cared for properly.

Sizes Available: Prints are offered in multiple sizes and both horizontal and vertical layouts. Every crop is prepared to preserve Christ’s raised hands, the gathered disciples, and the scene’s upward movement.

Handmade and Signed: Every print is personally prepared and signed in the margin by me, the original artist.

Packaging and Shipping: Each print is packaged securely using protective materials appropriate to its size. Tracking information is provided so you can follow the artwork on its journey to your home.

Care Instructions

  • Display away from prolonged direct sunlight to protect the color and prevent fading.
  • Frame standard prints behind UV-protective glass or acrylic when possible.
  • Handle the paper with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves.
  • Avoid rooms with excessive moisture or rapidly changing humidity.
  • Dust the frame or protective glazing gently with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

With thoughtful display and care, your print can remain a peaceful and meaningful part of your home for years to come.

Hand-Embellished Print Option

For added painterly texture and a closer connection to the artist’s hand, choose a Hand Embellished finish in your preferred layout. I personally apply professional acrylic paint and gel medium to selected areas, following the light and movement of the original artwork. Artist-applied brushstrokes add depth and subtle variation to the luminous clouds, flowing garments, hillside, and raised hands, making every embellished print one of a kind.

Because each piece is individually finished, this option requires additional creation time. The finished piece is a hand-finished fine art reproduction, not an original painting.
