Story Behind the Art

The shepherds stand on a rocky hillside with their flock gathered close. Ahead, a town glows beneath a wide night sky. Follow the Light #2 is inspired by Luke 2:15–20, when the shepherds decided to go to Bethlehem after hearing the angels' news. Their next step was simple: they would see the child for themselves.

We see the men from behind, sharing their view across the valley. Three staffs rise from the rough ground, while the sheep stay among the stones at their feet. Beyond them, small warm lights lead the eye through the town. The scene makes the distance feel real without placing the destination beyond reach.

A brilliant star shines above the open landscape. It serves as a visual sign of the Christmas hope in this painting; Luke describes the shepherds responding to the angels' words. The contrast between the blue sky and the golden light gives their decision a quiet sense of purpose. The way ahead is now where their attention rests.

This work speaks to the moment when hearing good news becomes a willing response. The shepherds leave us with a clear Christmas example: they go to Jesus, then return praising God.
